Bagworth Heath XC Results

As always, thanks and well done everyone who took part or supported. A slightly smaller turn out than the first one. Even if you are not in the first few back to count for a team, you will be pushing down the numbers of other club’s runners who do score in their team. Also, you might be in the top few for Hinckley! I was (just) and didn’t expect to be.

So we ended up with 14 men and 12(.8?) ladies finishing.

As a team we came 4th in League 1 again and remain in 4th place. Currently 3rd place is a way ahead of us. Although, 5th and 6th are close behind us.

This time Men came 5th in League 1, with Beaumont coming ahead of us as well as the same 3 from last time. We are still 4th place and like the teams, further away from 3rd place but with 5th and 6th on our tail.

Ladies improved and came 2nd in League 2. This pushes them up to 2nd place. I feel a promotion coming on this season.

An old venue but a new course this year. Slightly longer, and I think a bit more up and down, but good fun!

So close to call on ROD again, but Ed and I have finally managed to make a decision and will announce on Thursday.

Runners of the Day – Markfield XC

Well done to all who took part in the Markfield Cross Country. Having so many runners has made the selection of Runners of the Day for Andrea and me very difficult.

Many of those for whom it was their first time, I hope you enjoyed it, keep coming and tell everyone else; the more the merrier

For the men Kevin Higham gets runner of the day with another strong performance, well done keep it up (work permitting!).

There were many other impressive performances with George Birt 8th, Ben Harding 9th and Matthew Johnson 30th.

For the ladies, making her senior debut, Bethan Padbury is runner of the day. Beth was first lady back for Hinckley. She had a great race with a very good place, 15th,  and time

Katy Grainger, 31st, continues to improve and was 2nd lady for Hinckley. Kate Perkins continues to do really well too; the bump isn’t holding her back yet, looking good for her post baby personal bests.

Once again well done to Kevin Higham and Beth Padbury and thank you all who took part.

Markfield XC 2014 – Results

Well done everyone who took part or supported. We had 22 men and 10 ladies finish.

As a team we came 4th in League 1 (Based on 7 men (including 2 vets) and 3 ladies (including 1 vet)).

Men came 4th in League 1 and Ladies came 3rd in League 2. A good start to the season all-round!

Many people who had done the same course in previous years improved their time and position. There were also plenty of people for whom it was there first XC for the club. Well done and please tell everyone else how much fun you had.

As our Chairman, John Padbury, mentioned at the AGM, racing can be a very good form of training. Many people are looking to either build up to a main race in the Spring, or just improve their fitness generally. For me I find XC a great strength workout and I think it is important to try and vary your training, so a bit of off road work for most should help.

With 21 men Ed and I had our work cut out to pick Runner of the day (ROD). We will aim to announce it Thursday.

League positions

LRRL league after Joy Cann 5 – one more race to go in the summer league!

The less good news first… Mens’ teams have suffered a little bit this season. We seem to yo-yo between division 1 and division 2, so after being promoted last season it did seem like relegation would be quite likely this season. Unfortunately the vet men’s team are already set to be relegated, but let’s put in a great final performance, and come back fighting next season, ready to win division 2! The men could POSSIBLY stay in division 1 with a truly heroic performance at John Fraser 10 – it’s Wigston Phoenix and Roadhoggs that you need to aim to beat!

The very good news – ladies are already confirmed champions of division 2, after winning all but two of the races so far. Ladies B are currently two points clear at the top of division 3, which is amazing – let’s keep it up and have two champion ladies teams! Vet ladies are comfortable in division 1, assured of safety next season after consistently amazing performances all year.

The next and final league race of the season is John Fraser 10 mile on Sunday 7th September. Entry and information can be found here:

Top of the league!

Well done to all HRC runners who turned out on Sunday, a great team turnout and some fantastic individual results, with Emma finishing 2nd lady in her first race since last October, and Chris and Kate finishing 6th man and lady respectively.

Ladies – we’re still top of the league! Undefeated in Division 2 after three races, let’s keep it up. Ladies B team are 4th in Division 3, C team are 17th; vet ladies are 6th in Division 1.

The men’s team are currently 7th in Division 1, with the men’s vet team 5th in Division 1.

Some great individual placings too after the first three races:

Kate Perkins: 3rd senior lady
Chris Limmer: 3rd senior man
Sarah McSharry: 5th senior lady
Gill McGarry: 2nd V45 lady
Odette Foxall: 6th V40 lady

The next league race is this Sunday, 16th March. The race is 7 miles and starts and finishes at Holwell Sports Club, Asfordby Hill, Melton Mowbray, LE14 3RD.

The race starts at 10:30; make sure you allow plenty of time to arrive and park, and car share where possible. You’ll need to be a club member, and you’ll need to wear a club vest. Race entry is £3.50 – no need to pre-register, just come to the Hinckley desk when you arrive.

Hopefully see a lot of you there! 🙂
