About Us

Hinckley Running Club brings together runners at all levels from the Hinckley area.  The club provides a social and supportive atmosphere for runners who want to maintain or improve their ability. For most members our Tuesday and Thursday evening training sessions provide a focus for regular running. The club also provides access to the Leicestershire Road Running League, a popular road race series ranging from 5 to 10 miles throughout the year. A cross-country series is also available in the winter season, for which the club organises one of the races.

The club was formed in October 1987 and new members are always welcome (see below for guidance).  We can often be recognised by our blue vest with white diagonal band, which is worn for races. Our base is:

Hinckley Leisure Centre, Argents Mead, Hinckley, Leicestershire, LE10 1BZ

Are you interested in joining Hinckley Running Club?

We cater for all abilities of runners, and love to welcome new members. If you are interested in joining the club, we invite you to come along to our Tuesday and Thursday evening training sessions (details below) for up to of 3 weeks before to applying for club membership. This allows you to “try before you buy”.

You don’t need to let us know you’re coming – just turn up! Make yourself known to one of the coaches or club captains so can welcome you to the session. We look forward to meeting you.

Training/Group Sessions

Group warm-up at a Tuesday night training session with Hinckley Running Club

Tuesday evening is our coached training session and this is the key to speed improvement for runners at all levels.  There is a 1 to 2 mile warm-up jog to reach a destination somewhere in Hinckley or Burbage. Once there, one of the qualified club coaches takes charge for a session of 25-40 minutes.  Variations of interval training are the norm.

Thursday evening is the ‘social run’ with a shorter route of about 6-7 miles and a longer route of 8-10 miles. The group usually splits into smaller groups for this, informally labelled A, B and C.  Expect 7 min/mile for the A-group through to 11 min/mile for the C-group.  The routes are different every week and start and finish at Hinckley Leisure Centre.

The sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays are free to club members. Regular attendance is usually 25 to 40 runners.

All sessions meet at Hinckley Leisure Centre from 6:15pm for a 6:30pm start. In summer, we meet outside the leisure centre near the café benches. In winter, we meet inside the leisure centre — head past reception (just say you’re here for the running club) and downstairs to the meeting room on the left. We have access to the downstairs changing rooms, showers and lockers (needs £1). Membership of Hinckley Leisure Centre is not required.

During the dark winter months (October to March) we wear high-vis/reflective clothing for all runs.

Beginners Advice

Many potential new members are concerned about whether they are at a suitable level.  As a guide, the ‘senior’ club is suited to people who can run 5k (3 miles), non-stop in less than 35 minutes.  If you can run 5k non-stop but take longer than 35 minutes, our intermediates group is where you will find developing runners at the same level. If you are building up to running 1 mile continuously or maybe trying the ‘couch-to-5k’ courses then we recommend our beginners group.  See: Beginners

The Tuesday evening training session is the most accessible for new runners or intermediates moving up to the senior level.  The interval session allows each runner to set their own pace and circuits can be skipped if extra rest is needed.

Juniors (Age 7 to 15)

Our popular juniors club runs in the early evening on a Wednesday. Please see the Juniors page for details.
