Andy's Final Day

Team Effort!

I could not miss the opportunity of seeing Hairy McNairy finish his amazing feet!

So with re-arranging work for the week (and the next week) I finished my Modelling job at 17:00 at Market Harboro and went home , Christina had packed the car ready to go and at 18:15 we set off to Wick with the kids. With a couple of driver changes and refuelling stops we arrived at Wick Campsite at 04:00 – noticing all the stops hairy made on the way.

Not far now..

Reflecting on the achievementAfter waking up the owner of the campsite on our arrival we managed a hour or so sleep before the crew were up and getting ready for the last day of the epic journey.

We set off at about 08:15 Rob, Martin and Sue on the bikes with me as a companion and his father-in-law (Ian) on his bike to do the last 17 miles to John O’Groats. The sun was out and it was a magical day –perfect – the run was brilliant and the crew followed with several stops to cheer him on and plenty of photographs from the Mrs.

As we approached John O’ Groats the pace increased as the end was in sight, Ian and myself dropped back so they could finish on their own – that and apart from the fact that he was getting pretty damn quick for the last two miles!

Team Effort! They crew almost missed the finish as they were having Coffee and cakes at the Café and did not think he would be so quick – but the whole family were there to see him finish cross the line!

It was truly an emotional experience that I am glad I was there for and hats off to a true gent for doing what he did.

So after a few showers and change of clothes it was off to the pub to celebrate!

Friday was another very nice day and we took all the kids to the beach where they swam in the North Sea and do what kids do, another trip to the pub at night and according to the locals this was the best two days of weather they have had since May!

Team Effort!Saturday we all went to the local Highland Games at Mey – where it rained and rained – but we stayed to see them and Prince Charles and Camilla were present as guests of honour. Kieran (my son) decided to enter the 100M for boys race and came 3rd winning £3.00. After which we bid farewell to the McNairys to head south – leaving them to make their way back slowly.

So congratulations to Hairy and his team for a truly mad experience and I was very pleased to be part of it and I can say hand on heart that I have run to John O’Groats (albeit from Wick).
